Governor Susana Martinez Kicks Off “Get The Picture” Centennial Travel Promotion

SANTA FE – Today Governor Susana Martinez kicked off the New Mexico Tourism Department’s Centennial travel promotion and photo contest called “Get the Picture” as part of the State’s Centennial celebration. She encouraged residents to travel New Mexico, get the picture and compete for a prize at the same time.

“The Centennial is the perfect time to learn about New Mexico’s past and travel to places to discover what the state has to offer,” said Governor Susana Martinez. “I encourage everyone to get out and explore New Mexico, from your favorite spots to unfamiliar territory. Our Centennial celebration is a great opportunity to re-discover everything we love about the Land of Enchantment.”

To take part in the “Get the Picture” promotion, participants can visit the New Mexico Tourism Department’s website at www.newmexico.org. 100 images of New Mexico are housed on the site’s photo gallery. Participants must use their knowledge of the state, seek out clues within the photo or do some research in an effort to figure out where a particular photo was taken.

Once that is figured out, participants will travel to that location to re-create their modern-day photo. Each photo that is successfully matched and uploaded to the participant’s profile page will receive one entry into the contest. The more photos that are matched correctly, the better the chances of winning the $10,000 prize, sponsored by Advanced Presentation Systems. The contest starts on January 6, 2012 and ends on October 12, 2012.

“There’s no better way to celebrate the state this Centennial year than by getting out and exploring,” said Tourism Secretary Monique Jacobson. “Pack your bags, chart your course, grab your camera and have fun on your adventure. You will create memories that will last a lifetime.”

The Department of Cultural Affairs has worked with communities throughout the state on local Centennial celebrations, making it an even more exciting time to get out and travel the state.

“We appreciate the partnership with the Tourism Department for their creative support of the Centennial,” said Cultural Affairs Secretary Veronica Gonzales. “With celebrations in every county, there are many opportunities to experience our rich heritage and culture first-hand.”
