Centennial Projects

Tell us your community's Centennial plans.

In the spirit of honoring the past with an eye to the future, Centennial Planners have identified four areas of interest:

  1. COMMUNITY: Creating landmark community records such as photographic histories of counties, regions or peoples. Supporting film, digital, audio and printed projects of statewide interest. Contributing to public and commemorative art statewide.
  2. EDUCATION: Celebrating and supporting the Centennial Class of 2012, while developing new K-12 educational materials about New Mexico's hundred years of statehood, including classes in history, social studies and the humanities. Developing curriculum guides for use in schools statewide, to engage students in aspects of history, culture and politics.
  3. PRESERVATION: Finding new ways to preserve and provide access to important historical materials. Preserving significant historical buildings, parks and monuments throughout the state. Expanding opportunities to preserve the historic, cultural, artistic and natural resources of New Mexico.
  4. TECHNOLOGY: Increasing access to information about the state and its cultural resources using the latest technologies. Connecting with local and regional participants via websites dedicated to event calendars, activities and pertinent histories.

As of Spring 2009, fourteen projects were selected by the Steering Committee and supported via the New Mexico Humanities Council. We look forward to integrating many more activities and initiatives.
