This exhibition focuses on the history and accomplishments of Roswell since its inception as a trading post in the Pecos Valley along the Goodnight-Loving Cattle trail in the 1860s. Since the beginnings of that simple outpost, Roswell has grown into the hub of southeastern New Mexico. From the great cattle barons to oil and gas development, from Robert H. Goddard’s liquid-fueled rockets to the purported crash of a UFO, and from the rich legacy of WPA and New Deal projects, this story provides rich context to New Mexico’s varied history. This exhibition is a collaboration between the Roswell Museum and Art Center and the Historical Center for Southeast New Mexico.
